Netflix has pink-slipped an additional 300 employees, representing about 3 percent of its workforce. “Both Ted and I regret not seeing our slowing revenue growth earlier so we could have ensured a more gradual readjustment of the business,” a note sent to staff yesterday from Netflix co-chiefs Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos read in part. “We know these two rounds of layoffs have been very hard for everyone—creating a lot of anxiety and uncertainty.” The streamer lost 200,000 subscribers during its first quarter.

The new round of layoffs comes as Sarandos confirmed yesterday at Cannes Lions that the streamer is in talks with multiple potential partners to help it launch an ad-supported tier. NBCU and Google reportedly have emerged as top contenders. Speaking at the “Future Of Entertainment” event, where he received the event’s entertainment person of the year award, Sarandos was short on details but noted the company is in conversations with “all of them” and they all “have different solutions.” Regarding whether the company might decide to have its own advertising arm, he said, “If it becomes so important [that] we want to have control over it, we might.” But he declined to address reports that Netflix could buy AVOD company Roku outright, noting, “I don’t know where that came from.”

An eight-ep drama inspired by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edith Wharton’s unfinished final novel “The Buccaneers” got the green light at Apple TV+. Toplined by Kristine Froseth (“The Assistant”), Alisha Boe (“When You Finish Saving the World”) and Josie Totah (“Saved By the Bell”), the series follows a group of fun-loving young American girls who explode into the tightly corseted London season of the 1870s, kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash. Sent to secure husbands and titles, the buccaneers’ hearts are set on much more. It’s written by Katherine Jakeways and directed by Susanna White.

Megan Stalter, the breakout star who plays lovably frustrating talent agent assistant Kayla in HBO Max’s “Hacks,” will soon be fronting a show of her own. “Church Girls,” a new comedy in development by HBO Max and A24 exec-produced and starring Stalter, is inspired by her true life experience. The series follows a 20-year-old Christian closeted lesbian as she wrestles with her sexuality and faith in God, while entering adulthood in suburban Ohio.

Also at HBO Max, Rina Mimoun , former exec producer of “Mistresses,” is onboard as showrunner and exec producer for the streamer’s “The Girls on the Bus,” the drama series inspired by Amy Chozick‘s book “Chasing Hillary.”

Additionally, the In-context ad generated higher brand favorability among participants, resulting in a 5 percent increase when compared with consumers viewing the out-of-context ad. * Consumers were four times more likely to remember a brand, unaided, after seeing an in-context ad versus an out-of-context ad.
