BUCYRUS—The Best “Wurst” Bike Ride returns to Bucyrus after a 2-year hiatus. The signature event celebrates its 42nd anniversary during the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival, welcoming riders from across the state to get “Back in the Saddle Again.”
The 2022 Best “Wurst” Bike Ride, hosted by the Bucyrus Tourism and Visitors Bureau under the supervision of the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce, offers cyclists of all ages and abilities the opportunity to explore the Crawford County countryside, riding along a trail of local flora and farms.
“We are thrilled to have the bike ride return to Bucyrus after so many years of uncertainty,” 2022 Chairperson Deb Cameron said. “Organizing this event has largely been a community effort, and I can’t wait to share the natural beauty of Crawford County with our riders.”
With a multitude of distances available — including a 15-, 32- and 47-mile ride — the route is well marked and flat with little traffic. The 15-mile route can be broken down into distances of 8, 11, and 13 miles. Maps and signage will be available to ensure safety and accessibility, and digital maps are available for more sophisticated riders. SAG volunteers will also be available to support cyclists and ensure safety.
Rest areas have been designated for riders based on distance, with one-stop expected to take place at the scenic Lowe-Volk Park and Nature Center and another slated for the Dapper Cabin, built in 1842. Refreshments will be available.
After the ride, cool off and enjoy homemade ice cream by The Antique Farm Machinery Association.
Each ride will begin at The Antique Farm Machinery Association building at the Crawford County Fairgrounds, located at 610 Whetstone St. Bucyrus, OH. Check-in will be from 7-9 a.m. on Aug. 20. Riders will be unsupported after 2 p.m.
Registration for the long ride is $25 before Aug. 1 and will increase to $30 after. Registration for the short ride is $15. Children under 10 years old are free with a paid adult. T-shirt orders must be made before Aug. 1.
